SPAIN: We share experiences and learn from one another and, above all, we work together in building a Gender Mainstreaming standard for the ESF.

I have been working on gender issues at the European level for almost 10 years now. Working in a transnational network is exciting, particularly if the content is about Gender Mainstreaming.

The European Commission adopted the Gender Mainstreaming strategy as early as 1996. However, it still needs further implementation within the European Social Fund. So, there is room for improvement and for hard work, and doing so at a transnational level brings an added value. Two important issues converge when doing Gender Mainstreaming: the aim of a gender equal society and the purpose of improved management of the funds. It is challenging to undergo changes within the ESF structures, and I am fond of challenges!

This is why I like to work in this Learning Network. We share experiences and learn from one another and, above all, we work together in building a Gender Mainstreaming standard for the ESF. We have high expectations, but also try to be realistic, and we have lots of commitment to build on.
