Gendering the flagships

The purpose of the conference was to describe the flagship thematics from a gender perspective, showing how gender equality is a fundamental aspect of sound sustainable economic, social and ecological development. The conference was setting out to increase the know-how on how a gender perspective can be applied by showing research evidence and concrete examples of initiatives undertaken with relevance for the three Flagship initiatives;(1) new skills and jobs, (2) youth on the move and(3) a European platform on poverty, challenging notions of gender neutrality.

In the preparation for the next Structural Funds period, integrating a gender perspective is essential in order to meet with the objectives of the EU 2020 strategy in a way that supports the development towards a more gender equal society. Increasing the understanding of how both economic growth and the current European crisis have a different impact on women and men, will strengthen the quality of the implementation of the flagship priorities funded by the ESF and other Structural Funds.
